GMX Governance Committee

Summary
GMX received 8 million ARB tokens from the Arbitrum DAO in recognition of its contributions as builders and community members, and its pivotal role in growing DeFi on Arbitrum. To ensure the GMX DAO’s voice was heard on Arbitrum, a temporary delegation to Coinflipcanada was set up until the DAO established its own governance infrastructure. This proposal seeks to now establish that voice for GMX in matters related to governance beyond our own DAO.

Motivation
The tokens were delegated to Coinflipcanada as a short-term solution, citing the passing of the STIP proposal and the establishment of a governance committee once GMX officially launches its on-chain DAO governance. (Snapshot)

Rationale

Propose the establishment of a governance committee comprised of five individuals to formalise GMX’s governance structure.

The responsibilities of the GMX Governance Committee will include but are not limited to:

  • Actively participating in governance discussions and voting on proposals by the Arbitrum DAO and other DAOs in which GMX has a voice and interest
  • Representing the interests and perspectives of the GMX community in governance deliberations.
  • Providing regular updates and reports to the GMX community on the outcomes of governance discussions and decisions.
  • Collaborating with other members of Arbitrum governance to promote the interests of the broader DeFi ecosystem.

Initial Setup
In the following bi-yearly elections, all five positions will be directly elected by the DAO. Additionally, there will be a non-voting observer seat from Labs to ensure coordination where necessary. This includes giving feedback to the committee on GMX’s non-governance-related activities with the Arbitrum DAO, foundation, and other external DAOs.

Compensation
Members of the Governance committee would receive an honorarium for their roles. The proposed honorarium is $1000 per month. Nominees from labs are waiving receipt of the honorarium as they are already indirectly compensated and aligned with the GMX DAO through contributor agreements.

Interested candidates could submit their nominations below this post following the template. The Nomination period will be open for about two weeks, and after that, we will have one week of a Snapshot vote to decide who will sit on the governance committee.

  • Goals for GMX DAO: As a significant delegate within the Arbitrum ecosystem, what would you like to see GMX DAO do or focus on?

I would like to see GMX DAO could focus on listening to the community’s voice. GMX Delegates should actively organize the community’s feedback into feasible proposals, focusing on both value increment and value retention to build GMX’s spear and shield.

  • Suggestions for the GMX Governance Committee: Do you have any ideas or suggestions for how the GMX governance committee can maximize its impact?

More trading markets, lower trading fees, higher capital efficiency, and better trading experience—leveraging these with the advantages of decentralization to maximize market share is the best way for the GMX Governance Committee to maximize its impact.

  • Time Commitment: Can you commit at least 8 hours per week to serve as part of this council?

For sure.

  • Declaration of Conflict of Interest (if any):

Top GMX holder. Building on GMSOL. I will choose to work for GMX Governance Committee without receiving any honorarium if elected.

I as a delegate agree that we should create a Governance committee as currently @coinflipcanda is carrying the heavy weight of being a Arbitrum delegate. If we foster a great governance committee that is able to handle meetings and have in-depth discussions about Arbitrum and the future of GMX, I think that would be very beneficial.

I would also like to put myself forward to participate in this Governance committee. I have a penchant for political discussions, a distaste for drama, and have been contributing to GMX on the Communications side for over 2 years now. This role seems like it suits my skillset, and I’d like to contribute to helping the Governance process run smoothly.

I have spearheaded each governance initiative at Castle:

  • Leading forum research contributors in Arbitrum DAO (informally during the STIP phase)
  • Frequent writer and editor of reports and educational content on Arbitrum and GMX
  • Formed a formal active delegate team for Arbitrum DAO with a full workflow and process
  • Leading Castle Capital in their role as Advisors where we helped design the program and supported over 60 applicants

You can find more information on Castle’s governance efforts below:

  • GMX Delegate Application: Our formal application as a GMX delegate can be reviewed here
  • Arbitrum Forum Summary: Our contributions and active participation in the Arbitrum forum can be found here

Familiarity with GMX, Arbitrum, and DAOs:

I possess a thorough understanding of GMX, Arbitrum, and the wider DAO ecosystem. As an XVIX/GMT migrator, I have been with the protocol and Arbitrum as a chain since day one. Some of you may even remember TokenFeeds, where I built the first functioning price chart of GMX in Q4 2021. From this wonderful community, I have been able to build Castle into a reputable voice in the Arbitrum ecosystem, and now I believe it is time for me to give back to GMX by sitting on this Committee if you would have me.

My involvement in key governance proposals and initiatives at Arbitrum has equipped me with deep insights into the operational and governance frameworks of the DAO, whilst demonstrating my commitment and expertise.

Addtionally, my reputation and trustworthiness within the Arbitrum DAO can be seen from Castle Labs’ success in the Arbitrum Multi-sig Signer Service (MSS) election.

Goals for GMX DAO:

As a significant delegate within the Arbitrum ecosystem, I would want to:

  • Champion the solidification of GMX as the base layer of liquidity for Arbitrum, in close collaboration with other key liquidity players and venues
  • Ensure Arbitrum comes out on top in the L2 mindshare and attention wars, primarily by supporting the proliferation of Arbitrum’s Orbit technology
  • Act as the voice of the GMX DAO and community, turning their warranted concerns and desires into meaning actions and proposals within Arbitrum DAO

Suggestions for the GMX Governance Committee:

To maximize its impact, the GMX governance committee should:

  • Closely engage and collaborate with other DAO stakeholders, be it in the forums, in weekly governance calls and working groups, or informally offline - something I already conduct and have the network for
  • Create a strong set of goals and an ultimate vision for our participation in Arbitrum DAO, by which all other impacts and assessments are routed to

Time Commitment:

I can commit at least 8 hours per week to serve as part of this council. My experience, role, and current responsibilities within Castle and the Arbitrum DAO enable me to allocate the necessary time and resources to fulfill this commitment effectively.

Declaration of Conflict of Interest (if any):

  • Represent Castle Capital as a delegate within Arbitrum DAO
  • Represent Castle Labs on the Arbitrum Multi-sig Signer Service (MSS)
  • Lead Castle Labs in Service Provider responsibilities for the Arbitrum DAO (LTIPP & STIP Bridge)

Having a data and software engineering background contributing for GMX, working on the GMX STIP Dashboard, that maps partnered protocol-level TVL and volumes/traders, I can help the committee incorporate data-driven and metrics based decisions to output, as we can help decide the efficacy of initiatives. Which helped strengthen insights around the final report for the GMX STIP Grants Program in the Arbitrum Governance.

As a strong proponent for fair-decision making and improving the GMX ecosystem. I served apart of the committee for both STIP Grants Wave 1 and STIP Grants Wave 2, an initative aimed to incentivise protocols building on top of GMX, alongside many great peers who taught me the importance of a focused approach, that resonates with aspiring teams, and the growth of GMX and Arbitrum, in which a collective 80+ protocols had participated in.

Familiarity with GMX, Arbitrum, and DAOs:
I have a strong familiarity with GMX, GMX DAO, and Arbitrum ecosystem. My work has closely involved many collaborations within the Arbitrum ecosystem, both independently and within the GMX domain diving into the metrics, with the presentation of protocol analytics, STIP, STIP.b, and LTIPP incentives for Arbitrum.

Goals for GMX DAO:
I’d like to see that the GMX DAO ensures GMX continues to serve as the cornerstone for unifying liquidity across protocol integrations and broaden Arbitrum ecosystems. A great strength for GMX is found with fostering long-standing partnerships amongst the perpetuals and liquidity landscape. This is most evidenced by the $354M TVL on GMX V2 today, whereabout $150M TVL comes from partnered protocols on Arbitrum.

Suggestions for the GMX Governance Committee:

I propose establishing communication mediums, such as community calls, governance channels, and wider forum presence, where community feedback, questions, and contrary opinions can be more openly shared acted upon with proposals.

Time Commitment:
I can commit 8 hours per week to serve as apart of the council.

Declaration of Conflict of Interest:

  • GMX Contributor (Thereby waivering the honorarium)
  • Having worked with a multitude of protocols on Arbitrum both on the software-development and data side, I will ensure that I acknowledge any and all conflicts of interest.

For the past year, I have been part of the GMX business development team, where I have contributed significantly to coordinating strategic initiatives aimed at expanding the GMX’s user base and increasing liquidity. My role involved actively engaging with institutional investors and partners to onboard them to the GMX platform, fostering relationships that enhance trading volume and platform stability via feedback from institutions.

In addition to my primary responsibilities, I also played a key role on the GMX grants committee for STIP Grants Wave 1. This initiative was designed to incentivize and support the development of innovative protocols on the GMX platform. As a committee member, I helped evaluate grant applications, providing critical feedback and recommendations to ensure that the most promising projects received the necessary support to build and thrive within the GMX ecosystem.

Familiarity with GMX, Arbitrum, and DAOs:

Through my role as BD contributor, I have developed a deep familiarity with GMX, GMX DAO, and the Arbitrum ecosystem through my extensive work in these areas. My role has involved numerous collaborations within the Arbitrum ecosystem.

Goals for GMX DAO:

Deepening collaborations with other protocols in the Arbitrum ecosystem to enhance GMX’s integration, strengthen its role as the foundational liquidity layer, and lead in Arbitrum’s development initiatives and incentive programs.

Suggestions for the GMX Governance Committee:

Establishing a framework with more communications with community members and an efficient and effective way to manage DAO. This framework should include regular engagement with other Arbitrum stakeholders to identify unique opportunities.

Time Commitment:

Yes

Declaration of Conflict of Interest:

No conflicts.
