Formation & Structure
The GMX Security Committee plays a critical role within the GMX DAO, ensuring the security, integrity, and proper functioning of the GMX protocol. As a direct expression of community trust, its five members are elected by the DAO and are tasked with reviewing key protocol actions and maintaining operational transparency and safety.
The current committee the second iteration began its term on May 1st 2025, and consists of the following elected members:
- 50
- Q
- SniperMonke
- Raoul
- Owen
The term length for members of the committee was originally set at 6 months. Elections for the Security Committee are held twice a year, with all five positions directly voted on by the DAO.
The committee is currently approaching the end of this second 6-month term. The Security Committee is, therefore, inviting community members to nominate themselves as potential new candidates. If no new members are successfully elected by the DAO, the current Security Committee members have indicated a willingness to continue their work for another term.
Nominations will be open from September 8th, 2025, to September 22nd, 2025.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review, verify, and audit protocol upgrades, smart contract deployments, and timelock transactions. Monitor the protocol operations, identifying and flagging any inconsistencies or vulnerabilities.
- Evaluate DAO proposals across platforms such as the GMX Forum and Tally. Provide feedback and ensure proposals align with GMX’s security standards and community goals.
- Oversee accurate role assignments (e.g., GMX V2 contracts),
Composition & Participation
Each committee member receives an honorarium of $500/month in recognition of their time and responsibilities. Note: Owen is exempt from this honorarium, as Guardian receives compensation through a separate ongoing retainer with GMX.
Work completed in the past 6 months:
The Security Committee has actively contributed to protocol safety, governance oversight, and transparency through the following initiatives:
-
Proposal Oversight: Reviewed numerous DAO proposals across the GMX Forum and Tally.
-
Timelock Transaction Reviews: Audited all timelock executions to ensure proper and secure function.
-
Role Management for GMX V2: Verified role-granting transactions and confirmed deployed contracts matched audited code.
-
Fund Distribution: Facilitated the secure distribution of funds related to the GMX V1 incident.
Proposal for extension
An extension of the Security Committee’s term by another six months, until April, is proposed.
Community members are invited to nominate themselves as candidates for the GMX Security Committee.
Any delegate may also challenge an individual committee member or the entire committee. In the absence of objections and if no new candidates are successfully elected, the current committee will continue in its existing form.
Conclusion
With the committee’s 6-month term nearing its end, the GMX DAO will begin the process of electing the next Security Committee. All current members have expressed a willingness to continue if re-elected, ensuring continuity in the absence of new successful candidates.
Nomination Template
The nomination period will be open for approximately 2 weeks, starting on September 8th and closing around September 22. Following this, we will have a one-week Snapshot vote period to determine the composition of the Security Committee.
