Summary

This proposal introduces a Grant Report Visualization Tool for GMX Governance to enhance the community’s ability to monitor and evaluate the progress of funded proposals. The tool will provide a clearer view of all grant updates, featuring detailed visualizations, real-time updates, and automated notifications integrated into the gov.gmx.io website. The goal is to deliver a streamlined view to improve oversight, accountability, and engagement.

Problem Statement

The GMX community does a solid job providing updates for funded grants. However, these updates are often scattered across various posts and channels, which can make them challenging to track over time and have a clear view of how new updates tie in to previous ones. This fragmentation creates inefficiencies in oversight, making it difficult for the community to:

  • Monitor progress consistently.
  • Detect delays or deviations promptly.
  • Engage effectively in the grant evaluation process.

Proposed Solution

The Grant Progress Visualization Tool will streamline how updates are shared, allowing the community to easily see how new information connects with previous reports.

Key Features

  1. Milestone Visualization
  • Dedicated visual dashboards for each grant.
  • Progress bars, percentages, and milestone timelines to highlight achievements and pending tasks.
  1. Real-Time Updates
  • Continuous updates on milestone completions and deadlines.
  1. Automated Alerts
  • Notifications for overdue tasks or scope deviations via in-app alerts and email.
  1. Interactive Visuals
  • Charts and graphs to show project trends and summaries, making progress easy to interpret at a glance.

Development Plan & Budget

Milestone 1: UI/UX Design & Feedback (1 Week, $500)

  • Deliverables:
    • Wireframes for the main dashboard and individual grant pages.
    • Core designs:
      • Grant Overview Page: Displays status indicators (e.g., “On Track,” “Delayed”).
      • Grant Detail Pages: Includes timelines, milestones, and visual progress tracking.

Milestone 2: Frontend Development (1 Week, $1,000)

  • Deliverables:
    • Responsive frontend optimized for desktop and mobile use.

Milestone 3: Backend Development & Finalization (2 Weeks, $1,500)

  • Deliverables:
    • Database integration for tracking grant milestones.
    • Backend logic for real-time updates and notification systems.
    • Final testing and deployment.

Total Budget: $3,000

Benefits to the GMX Community

  1. Enhanced Transparency
  • Centralized, easily accessible grant data builds trust and accountability.
  1. Improved Accountability
  • Progress tracking ensures grant recipients adhere to timelines and deliverables.
  1. Increased Engagement
  • Visual, user-friendly tools encourage active community involvement.
  1. Proactive Problem-Solving
  • Timely alerts help address delays or deviations before they escalate.

Conclusion

By transforming grant reports into an interactive visualization tool, this project will improve the transparency and efficiency of grant monitoring within GMX governance. It represents a cost-effective investment in fostering accountability, engagement, and streamlined community

I like the idea of making the progress of the grants given as part of the GMX Grants Program more visual and transparent. There is definitely some optimisation that could be done there.

However, the Grants Program has been sunset for a few months now. The last wave of grants was during the STIP-Bridge program, and those grant processes have been finalised. So how relevant is this currently?

Hi Jonezee, thank you for the feedback! I’m glad to hear that you like the idea of making grant progress more visual and transparent.

You bring up an important point about the GMX Grants Program being sunset. While the STIP-Bridge grants are finalized, this concept could still be relevant for visualizing and tracking progress for any future grants and overall DAO actions including new funding opportunities, or other community initiatives that may emerge. The goal would be to create a modular and flexible system that could adapt to different funding structures or evolving governance decisions.

I appreciate your thoughts and would be happy to hear if you think this could be applicable in other contexts!

Hey Emmanuel,

Thank you for the suggestion. We will check with the committee and let you know, but as of now, grants aren’t our focus for the next few months. The focus would be solely towards improving the product, but I am happy to make an intro within the Arbitrum DAO for your tool!

Thank you, Saurabh, for your response! I understand the current focus on improving the product and appreciate you considering my suggestion. While your offer of an introduction to the Arbitrum DAO is thoughtful, there’s no need for it at the moment as I’m already in touch with them. Thanks again for your support, and I’ll be sure to stay aligned with GMX’s priorities as they evolve.
